NV Architecture & Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

Nevada Flag

The Nevada Board of Achitecture, Interior Design and Residential Interior Design requires Nevada-registered architects, interior designers and residential interior designers to complete eight (8) hours of continuing education every year.

  • CE Requirement:  Eight (8) hours of continuing education, which must address health, safety and welfare (HSW) issues. Two (2) of the eight (8) hours must be code-related
  • CE Cycle: Annual running from January 1 through December 31.
  • Acceptable Coursework: A minimum of 4 CEUs must be earned in structured setting (e.g. seminar, internet or correspondence course). A maximum of 4 CEUs may be earned in self-directed setting (activity related to the registrant's profession but not designed and systematically presented as a continuing education activity e.g. publication of an article or book, making a professional or technical presentation, being an active member or officer of professional organization, teaching, etc.)
  • Reporting of Credits:  Providers CANNOT report continuing education credits earned to the Nevada Board. Registrants are responsible for tracking courses and maintaining supporting documentation in case of an audit.  A CEU Tracking Log must be completed and sent with each registrant's renewal.  Transcripts and other back-up information will not be accepted by the board, unless a registrant is audited.
  • Tracking of Credits: Registrants are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 3 years. Did you know? Design Arts Seminars keeps track of the courses you take with us and provides you with online access to your transcript saving you both time and money, especially in case of audit.
  • Audit: A random sample of registrants will be selected for an in-depth audit to verify compliance with continuing education requirements.

Thank for the comment on my blog. I am trying to familiarize myself with interior design practice legislation and have not been able to look at Nevada's policies. Thanks for the links. I am not convinced ASID and IIDA hold up the continuing ed. bar high enough and we should not have to have stated mandated requirements either. Anyway keep up the good fight.

Thanks for your reply. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. Wondering why you seem to be against "state-mandated requirements"? Are you referring to continuing education requirements or licensing in general or am I misunderstanding? Would love to hear your take on this. Personally, of course, I am biased but state-mandated or not. I really feel lifelong learning, continuing education, professional development or whatever you wish to call it is a great way for professionals to remain marketable and can be used as an opportunity for so many other things as discussed in my post on that very subject: http://info.designarts.net/blog/bid/34787/Continuing-Education-What-s-The-Point Would love to hear your thoughts!

I am not against education in any form. Lifelong learning is a professional obligation. I am against licensing of interior design practice as it is generally defined. I am not against the concept of licensing but I do believe that the "profession" of interior design has a lot of internal housekeeping to perform before we can legitimately demand regulation of our services. I think Florida has set several precedents in this regard. Not all of them are positive. But that is a long discussion and I do not want to bore you. Thanks again.
